With Voxcetera chamber choir | Olivia Jageurs, harpist | Jane Hopkins, conductor

On Saturday 9th July, popular chamber choir Voxcetera will present an evening of uplifting choral music by composers including Mozart, Britten, Bruckner, Rutter and Purcell, at the historic St. Mary’s Church, Earl Soham. The choir will be joined by accomplished harpist Olivia Jageurs. A portion of ticket sales will support the upkeep of this historic building.

The concert opens with sacred music spanning 400 years, from Tallis, Byrd and Purcell, via Mozart and Bruckner, to hypnotic works by contemporary composers James MacMillan and Ola Gjeilo. The second half will feature folk songs from the British Isles and France, in sparkling and haunting arrangements by Britten, John Rutter, Poulenc, Vaughan Williams and Bob Chilcott. Popular songs such as Danny Boy and Loch Lomond will feature among lesser-known discoveries.
Concert-goers can enjoy a free glass of wine at the interval, and a portion of ticket sales will support the Friends of St. Mary’s Church, Earl Soham, a charity which serves to maintain this Grade 1-listed village church.

Founded in 2009, Voxcetera is a chamber choir based in London, celebrating sacred and secular music spanning the 13th century to the present day, under the direction of founding conductor Jane Hopkins. The choir has performed at prestigious London venues including St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. John’s Smith Square, and has presented concerts in Dublin, Edinburgh and across southern Germany, as well as undertaking recording work.

Olivia Jageurs has played such venues as the Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall, and with orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, London Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hallé.
