Join us outdoors for three days of painting in the Suffolk countryside in high summer.
Suffolk is a county of huge skies over patchwork of fields, low marshes and ancient hedgerows and woods. There is very often a church tower in sight. These are the markers of our local landscape, giving a presence through the centuries. We visit some of the county’s beautiful churches to paint their magnificent presence in the landscapes and to enjoy the changing skies.
Mary-Anne Bartlett will lead this short art break with demonstrations, exercises and one-to-one tuition time. Painting outdoors gives an extra freedom to learning and to expression, so we can explore our ideas fully over the three days.
Mary-Anne was born and brought up in Suffolk. She will take you to some of her favourite churches – Woodbridge, Blythburgh, Ramsholt and a few more, chosen not only for their imposing position in the landscape, or their picturesque churchyards, but also for their atmospheric, historic and architectural importance. When you book, feel free to make suggestions, as our itinerary can be flexible!
Sketching and painting en plein air, we venture to parts of Suffolk that have enchanted artists, musicians, poets and authors over the centuries including isolated churches, water meadows, castles, woodlands and villages.
Your sketchbooks will fill with happy images of Suffolk in summertime. There’s time for long sessions on one painting too.
In the evenings there’s the option to gather in a local restaurant or pub for a convivial Art Safari evening (dinner not included).
Suitable for artists of all abilities, equipment list will be provided. Bring a chair so you can set up your own outdoor studio.
