Welcome to the third Ambient Music FestivalAmbient Music Festival
The 3-day Arts Festival returns September 20th - 22nd, with ambient music providing the backdrop throughout the historic town of Woodbridge.
Events will be held at the Tidemill, Shire Hall, St. Mary’s Church, the Angel, Whisstocks Place, the Canteen, the Riverside and more.
Centre stage will be the beautiful River Deben continuing the “Save the Deben” campaign in memory of Caroline Page and the annual ambient river walk installation led by Bards Aloud.
So, what is Ambient Music? It is often described as ‘Music to quiet your thoughts’ and ‘Music that doesn’t get in the way.’ Recently the NHS suggested relaxation techniques including ambient music, that can help relieve stress and gain a sense of well-being.
Producer and lifelong music maker, Jan Pulsford, says “Woodbridge has a special feeling. The river and light inspire many artists and musicians. Brian Eno, known as the ‘Father of Ambient Music’and his brother Roger grew up here. This weekend continues celebrating our link to ambient music, something Woodbridge should be very proud to acknowledge. Aldeburgh has Benjamin Britten, and we have Brian Eno!”
A packed weekend includes Eno creative partners Tom Rogerson and friends playing a Saturday afternoon concert in the beautiful Church of St Marys. Peter Chilvers will talk about developing the Brian Eno Bloom apps and play a performance with guitarist Ted Morcaldi.
Friday opens the festival in the Tidemill with a reception highlighting the famous Suffolk walk of WG Sebald and his book, ‘Rings of Saturn’ with Film maker and author John Rogers. Saturday moves to the river and live music and ambient DJs on Whisstock’s Place including Tom Greig and Aartwork. GI-Mac has tech events including virtual global performances streaming from the USA.
After the Church concert the Canteen on New St. will host more ambient music. Sunday is electronic music open mic day at the Angel and slow films in the Shire Hall. Sundowners finish the festival at the Riverside.
Events finish at 10PM so you can get the last train back to London or East Anglia.
