The new Rotary year commenced on the 1st July and Simon Holloway, their outgoing president, handed the reins to Ian Reed who takes up the role for the next two years.

A busy few weeks have followed the Regatta back in June where the Rotary provided car park and level crossing marshals for stall holders as well as manning their traditional Bottle Stall raising money for the charities they support .

They provided a Rotary information stall at Farlingaye School Mindfest which was a very successful event, although rain curtailed it at the end of the evening.

A bottle stall at Grundisburgh Village Fete raised £200 which has been donated to “Just 42”,  and supported the Woodbridge Golf Club with raffle prizes. They also manned two on course refreshment points during the day. Overall they received £2,005 for their Mens Shed project, being just part of the monies raised by Woodbridge Golf Club for the other charities chosen by their mens and ladies Captains’.

The Rotary continue to meet most Fridays at The Bull Inn from soon after 12:00 with lunch in Carlows room at 12:45 for 13:00. They welcome all those who would like to come along to find out more about them, or just for a social, convivial lunch. Advance warning is necessary to enable the chef to organise the catering so, if you wish to attend please call Ian Reed on 07785209861 at the latest by 18:00 on the Thursday evening, ie the day before.

They have been fortunate to have a number of guest speakers in the last two months covering a wide range of interesting subjects which have included a fascinating insight into what it means to be a headmaster in the modern world by Andy Green, what it is like to have to rely on a Hearing Dog by Jean Maxwell and how the The Samaritans interact with those in need of emotional support by Penny Brown. All of which kept them entertained and generated good interaction from those attending.

The Rotary are now beginning to prepare for the Ruff Stuff forest cycle event which this year will be on Sunday 27th October. This event is very well supported and caters for all ages, although those under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, parent or guardian. This takes place in Rendlesham Forest where they have organised three circular routes from Butler Village Hall, they are 10,  25 or 30 kilometre courses and so offer an opportunity for a wide range of cyclists with mixed abilities and experience.  The hall opens at 08:00 with the ladies of the Inner Wheel providing light refreshments before the event starts with the first riders setting off at 9:30 and thereafter at five minute intervals.
