In September, two Woodbridge Shufflers ran 32 miles from Lowestoft to Aldeburgh as part of the Suffolk Coastal Ultra Marathon.

Lisa Squirrel and Kate Hayward-Brackenbury took in some breath-taking coastal scenery and a lot of shingle to complete the distance in 6hrs and 20mins. They were motivated by friends and family along the route as well as their fundraising challenge ‘Running for Ryan’.

Ryan sustained a very serious spinal injury which has left him in need of long term treatment and rehabilitation in a specialist spinal unit. Ryan will be transferred to Stoke Mandeville for intensive specialist treatment.

Ryan is a polite, engaging fun-loving teenager who is a fabulous and caring friend to so many. Always involved in activities and adventures, including rugby, skate boarding, football and part of the Farlingaye High School community, where he sat his GCSE's this summer.

Lisa and Kate joined fundraising forces with 3 other local runners, Andy, Marcus and Ally and together they’ve raised over £10,000.

Also in September, over 40 people from the Woodbridge Shufflers took part in a run across the River Deben. The runners waded through the mud and the river at low tide to get to the other side.

Carefully supervised by our experienced run leaders, it was lots of fun (if you like getting muddy and wet). A few people lost trainers and needed help after getting stuck in the mud, but once they got to the far shore and dried off, there was a choice of a 3 or 5 mile run back to Woodbridge from the far side of the river.
