Places of Interest
Woodbridge has a wealth of historic places to visit both within the town and in the surrounding areas.
Make sure you don’t miss a visit to the Tide Mill or view the progress of the Long Ship reconstruction plus many more lovely attractions available for your enjoyment.
When Buttrum’s Mill was built in 1836, it was at the cutting edge of milling technology, a product of the famous Suffolk millwright John Whitmore. Visitors can climb the tall tower to see his elegant machinery, including four pairs of millstones.
Originally built by Thomas Seckford in 1575, the upper part of the Shire Hall was used for judicial purposes while the ground floor served as an open corn market.
The tower is one of Suffolk's biggest and dramatic in the landscape, the exquisite flintwork in the magnificent north porch and in the tower battlements will draw you to this church. The tower rises over 30 metres and is one of the finest in England.
This hauntingly beautiful 255-acre estate, with far-reaching views over the River Deben is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time.
Whisstocks Place is the place to visit down at the riverside in Woodbridge. From a history of boat building it’s transformation into a vibrant social area has stunningly captured a variety of interest.
The once derelict site of the old Whisstocks Boatyard has been transformed. In April 2018 we took on the lease of the Longshed, a purpose built community resource comprising a boatbuilding workshop and mezzanine gallery.
