Opera in The Park

2022-09-17 2022-09-17 Opera in The Park

After two very successful opera productions in Woodbridge's lovely Elmhurst Park Bandstand, Opera In The Park's producers Lady Caroline Blois and Nick Fowler supported by Woodbridge Rotary Club are planning a third opera.  This time the opera will be Johann Strauss the Younger's sparkling effervescent Die Fledermaus, or The Bat.

Full of glorious tunes and waltzes, a masked ball, and many comical misunderstandings, The Bat never fails to enchant.  Opera In The Park's mission is to show that opera needn't be elitist, expensive and highbrow, but can be inclusive, inspiring and fun.

As in last year's Magic Flute, the performance will involve local children, singers, and dancers from the local community, as well as local professional orchestral players, and a mix of exciting young and seasoned professional soloists.

Opera In The Park is supported by generous grants from Woodbridge Town Council, our County Councillor Caroline Page, our District Councillors Kay Yule and Chris Mapey, and a number of donations from private individuals. Opera In The Park's producers are very grateful also to Woodbridge Rotary Club, who have agreed to act as our umbrella charity, providing financial and logistical assistance.

The opera will be performed in English, in a version specially prepared by Opera In The Park's director and co-producer Nick Fowler, who will act as Narrator in the performance.

In addition, Nick has written a song based on the fabulous Strauss waltz to The Beautiful Blue Danube, called The Beautiful Green Deben, which will be performed for the first time as part of the opera.

The performance is planned for Saturday 17th September, starting at 5pm and ending at 6.30pm.  There will be no interval.

The opera is free, but ticketed.  Tickets can be obtained by sending an email detailing how many tickets you require to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
